Andy Warhol
Andy was born in 1928 in Pittsburgh as the son of Slovak immigrants. His original name was Andrew Warhola.

After high school he studied commercial art at the Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh. Warhol then graduated in 1949 and went to New York where he worked as an illustrator for magazines such as Vogue and on commercial projects.

In the 1960’s began painting objects which were mass produced such as Campbell Soup cans and Coke bottles.
From 1962 he began making silkscreen prints of famous celebrities like Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor and Jackie Kennedy. In the later years he went on to make screenprints of such famous personalities as Mick Jagger, Mohammad Ali, Grace Kelly, Ingrid Bergman.

No other artist is as much identified with Pop Art as Andy Warhol.
